            Why We Give?

            We tithe first out of obedience, but also out of gratitude and to support the work of the church. God has given us so much through Christ, the Holy Spirit and the church, that it is not hard to want to be obedient in giving back. Furthermore, it is great to know that tithing is going toward helping others experience the same blessings. Lastly, according to the Scriptures including the New Testament, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer’s cause on earth.

            What is tithing?

            The tithe is mentioned many times in the Old Testament as God’s People were asked to bring a tenth of their income or a tenth from the food they produced to the priest. As believers we know that everything belongs to God, and He has made us stewards of what he has given us. The tithe is simply the portion we give back to him and his work that is used to support the work of His church. Now the New Testament doesn’t refer to a tenth but does consistently require this returning a part of our earnings back to the church in worship and to support the church. And most interpret that to mean the tithe or even more as God leads.
